DR. MARIANA PAVON
Middle School Science Teacher
PhD, Biochemistry, University of Chicago
Mariana joined Congressional School in 2019. She earned her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Chicago, then worked for three years as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health. Her research focused on how human cells behave differently in the context of disease, from cancer to viral infection. After participating in Science outreach programs throughout her research career, Mariana decided to devote herself full-time to Science education. She spent four years teaching Middle School Science at an independent school in Northern Virginia and a public charter school in DC.
Mariana has lived in 5 different countries and is fluent in English, Spanish, and French. In her free time, you’ll find Mariana playing with her twin boys, cuddling her many pets, and enjoying good books.
