Karla joined the Congressional team in August 2022 as a Grade 2 Teacher. Most recently, Karla taught Kindergarten at The Basilica School of Saint Mary in Alexandria, Virginia. During her eight-year tenure at the Basilica School, Karla led student stewardship opportunities to help children in schools and orphanages in Cuba and El Salvador. Prior to teaching Kindergarten, she worked as a Spanish Teacher for Pre-K through Grade 4 at the Basilica School of Saint Mary. Karla holds an M.S., in Applied Developmental Psychology from George Mason University and an M.A., in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from the Catholic University of America. She is the mother of two young children, most recently her son was born in July 2022. An endurance athlete by nature, Karla achieved one of her greatest life goals in hiking the 500-mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage across northern Spain in 2015 and an abbreviated route with her spouse on their way to the altar in 2019. She enjoys running, yoga, and weekend adventures with her family.
