Sara Hawkins is a dedicated and experienced Art educator with a Master of Arts in teaching Art Education from George Mason University, specializing in teaching art to students with special needs. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from James Madison University, focusing on painting and drawing. Sara holds certifications in Art/PreK-12 and Non-Categorical Special Education/PreK-12 for the District of Columbia.
Since 2015, Sara was a Teaching Artist at the Lab School of Washington, where she instructed students with language-based learning differences in various artistic disciplines. Sara also taught an arts-based history/social studies course called, “Museum Academic Club,” were she guided students through ancient history and museum functions. Sara emphasizes the importance of art in society and culture, encourages critical assessments of diverse artworks, and fosters self-expression and creative thinking among her students.
