RETHINK. REIMAGINE. TRANSFORM.

TWO PROJECTS. ONE SHARED VISION.

We are excited to rethink, reimagine, and transform two of the most utilized spaces on our campus - the cafeteria in the Big School and the playgrounds at the Little School. Our vision for both is to transform them into spaces that foster discovery, collaboration, play, community, learning, and much more. Committees for both projects have been formed and planning is underway.

Transforming the Big School Cafeteria

The transformation of the Big School cafeteria into a Multipurpose Center and Dining Commons is driven by the fact that the current cafeteria is not fully meeting the needs of the school community. Our goal for this project is to create a space that offers:

  1. Community Building- Foster connection, collaboration, and resource sharing among students, faculty, and staff
  2. Inclusivity- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible resource for all members of our community
  3. Sustainability- Embody our commitment to sustainable environmental practices

LS-Playgrounds

As we begin to think creatively about what a forward-looking playground should be, how it should function, and what community and social goals it might serve, a committee of faculty, staff, and parents has been formed. The Committee is tasked with synthesizing the views of the school community on the future of the playgrounds and will work with a professional playground consultant appointed by the school. The project will progress in 4 phases:

  1. Discovery and Analysis
  2. Planning Scenarios
  3. Preliminary Plan Development
  4. Final Plan Development

Little School Playground Project Update:

In the fall of 2024, a playspace consultant was engaged to work with us on the discovery and analysis phase and take us into phase 2 of the project.

A strategic priority of Congressional School is to reinvigorate our physical campus and provide state-of-the-art facilities and grounds that will support a variety of teaching and learning opportunities. It is important that Congressional School’s campus supports its academic and extracurricular aspirations at the most optimal levels.

Teachers, alumni, and students discuss why renovating the cafeteria
and playgrounds is important to them.
